This Little Light of Mine
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Last month my beautiful daughter was deeply hurt by a woman in her church.
For years Collette has performed in church meetings, playing the piano and singing. She prayerfully chooses her songs and prays for the spirit to help her convey the message of the music.
Where most would stand at the pulpit and sing, she chooses to sit at the piano where she can be somewhat in the background. Accompanying herself, she is able to put emphasis as she feels moved by the spirit.
This woman had the audacity to accuse her of "showing off" because she didn't use an accompanist. She said that she was performing rather than worshiping.
I don't understand people who feel the need to instruct others how they should share their talents. Who believe that they know what is or isn't appropriate. Who actually have nothing better to do than insult and cause pain to someone.
My advice to Collette: A quote taken from Eleanor Roosevelt:
Do what you feel in your heart to be right - for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't.
As the song goes; This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
You Go Baby Girl!
